We begin a new partnership with SSEN Transmission!

Two young people at the Tain Underpass

We’re so thrilled to announce a new partnership – we have won a second grant from SSEN Transmission, to  expand our innovative youth mentoring programmes.

This will allow us to reach 8 deprived communities in Inverness, Alness, Elgin and Aberdeen. It will build the mental health, life skills and qualifications of 240 young people facing disadvantage, and create leaders who contribute positively to their communities.

‘We are grateful to the SSEN Transmission Regional Fund for this important grant,’ said Growing2gether’s co-CEO, Gavin Morgan. ‘We know that when young people find their voice and come together, they don’t just build a community – they become the force that transforms it.’

These funds will boost Growing2gether Nursery, an innovative, early intervention programme targeting young people (13-15 years), who volunteer as mentors to children needing extra support in local nurseries. They gaining community experience and a Level 4 SCQF interpersonal skills qualification.

The pathway for their growth continues, as the charity’s experienced facilitators then coach participants to create Youth Social Action community projects supported by community mentors. Young people consult with local people to identify a community issue and develop community projects, building confidence and work skills.

To date, young people have delivered over 30 youth-led Youth Social Action projects, 7 thanks to SSEN funding (including UNCRC Children’s Rights/improving a Tain underpass/mental health). Mentors have included the University of Highland and Islands, Eden Court, Connecting Carers, and Mikey’s Line. Young people can also join the charity’s Youth Leadership Board and train to become Young Leaders to co-deliver Youth Social Action.

We are very keen to create further corporate partnerships across Highland, Moray and Aberdeen. If you’re interested, please contact gavin.morgan@growing2gether.org.uk
